Dykes Library sends all materials to be bound to Houchen Bindery in Utica, Nebraska. The truck comes every other Tuesday and the binding process takes two weeks.
KUMC members can have their journals and books bound at our contracted prices. Journals are bound in one volume for $7.00. Books are rebound in buckram cloth for $5.55, or plastic for $3.68.
Binding of theses and dissertations is now handled electronically. More information here: Thesis & Dissertation Binding. The library will accept practicums for binding. The cost is $7.00 per copy.
A fuel surcharge is added to each invoice. The charge is 2.2% of the total bill, or a minimum of $15.00.
Journal issues must be arranged in the proper order and tied together with string or rubber band. Each bundle should be under 2.5 inches. Fill out and attach a binding slip to each bundle of journals and/or to each book. Write exactly how you want the spine information to read. If you are missing an issue, indicate "bind incomplete" and include the issue number that is missing on the binding slip. Otherwise, Houchen Bindery will return the journals unbound.
There is a choice of 20 cover colors. Choose from the color code booklet available at Dykes Bindery Room, or on the Houchen Bindery web site. Click on "library binding," then click on "chart of F grade colors." There are also three lettering colors: white, black, or gold.
The Bindery office is staffed by Will Williams (ext. 8-7327) in room G012A of Dykes Library. Materials can be dropped off at the Public Services desk anytime.
