Bindery

Dykes Library sends all materials to be bound to Houchen Bindery in Utica, Nebraska. The truck comes every other Tuesday and the binding process takes two weeks.

Personal Binding Services

KUMC employees and students can have their journals, books, dissertations, theses, and practicum reports bound at our contracted prices. All personal binding of journals, books, dissertations, theses, and practicum reports MUST be prepaid.

  • Journals are bound in one volume - $7.00/volume
  • Books rebound in plastic - $3.68/per book
  • Books rebound in buckram cloth - $5.55/per book
  • Theses, dissertations, practicum reports - $10.00/per copy

Theses and dissertations are submitted electronically through the Office of Graduate Studies. For more information see the Office of Graduate Studies. After completing the electronic submission, KU Med students have the option of ordering hard bound copies for their personal use. You may order bound copies through a bindery of your choice or through Dykes Library, at our more economical pricing. Bring printed copies of your thesis to the Dykes Library Public Services desk, complete a binding order form [Word doc] and prepay based upon the number of copies.

Departmental Binding Services

Departments and doctors may send their books and journals for binding using the library’s contract pricing. Contact the binding office between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm at 8-4836 or visit Dykes Library G012, Peggy Dollard, for information on preparing materials and completing the required paper work.

Departments will be billed directly by Houchen Bindery at the contract price plus the contract fuel surcharge of 2.2% of the total bill, or a minimum of $15.00. Materials are shipped and returned every other Tuesday.

For any binding, personal or departmental, there is a choice of 15 cover colors. Choose from the color code booklet available at the Dykes Bindery Office or on the Houchen Bindery web site. There are also three lettering colors one may select from: white, black, gold.

Prices are subject to change based upon contract modifications.
