Most anatomy illustrations and photographs are found in atlases of the human body. The folio section and reserve area of the library contain several anatomy atlases. Additional atlases may be found within specific subject classifications. Atlases and pictorial works are assigned the classification number 17; therefore, general anatomy atlases are classified in QS 17, cardiovascular atlases in WG 17, neurology atlases in WL 17, etc. View a brief list of subject classifications. If you are unsure of the classification for your subject, conduct a word search on the online catalog. For example, a word search for "hand atlases" indicates that several hand atlases are located in the WE 17 section. Atlas of Human Anatomy, Ciba Collection of Medical Illustrations, and Human Body on File are three atlases that you may find helpful. The 1918 edition of the classic Gray's Anatomy is also available online.

Many books about diseases and injuries contain illustrations. Several medical dictionaries, such as Melloni's Illustrated Medical Dictionary, contain illustrations. You may also find illustrations by searching the online catalog for books about the specific disease or injury you are researching. If the DESCRIPT line contains the abbreviation, "ill." or "illus." the book is illustrated and may contain a picture of the disease or injury which interests you.
