Author Searching in the Online Catalog
Use the online catalog's author search to find materials by a personal author. Enter as much or as little of the author's name as you wish (last name first). The system will allow you to browse the surrounding entries. The online catalog displays only those books held by Dykes, Farha and Clendening Libraries. For a more extensive search for an author's books, you may wish to search the online catalogs of other libraries as well.
Author Searching in Print Indexes
- To find books or book chapters:
Consult the author volumes of Books in Print to
find books written by a particular author. Variant forms of an author's name may not be
listed together in the alphabetical sequence, but cross-references are available. Books
in Print contains only books which are currently in print; old editions and
out-of-print publications are not included. Books in Print is located in Ready
Reference.
Biological Abstracts/RRM (Reports,
Reviews, Meetings), Cumulative
Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, and Psychological Abstracts include
citations to books and book chapters. Select the index most closely related to the
author's subject area, then use the Author Index to find books or book chapters written by
that author.
- To find journal articles:
Each journal article index contains an author section.
Select the print index most closely related to the author's subject area (such as Index
Medicus for clinical medicine, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health
Literature for nursing, etc.). Look for the author's last name in the author index to
find a list of his/her publications. Complete citations may appear only under the name of
the first author of each article; names of subsequent authors are cross-referenced to the
first author's name. View a list of print indexes
available at Dykes Library.
