This reference is organized by therapeutic drug classes and provides a broad range of drug information to fulfill the everyday needs of practicing health care professionals. Each entry includes sections on actions, indications, contraindications, warnings and precautions, drug interactions, adverse reactions, overdosage, patient information, and administration and dosage. This work also includes a color locator to "aid in identifying tablets and capsules by their appearance." Standard abbreviations, a trademark glossary, and a manufacturers/distributors index are included in the appendices.

Physicians' Desk Reference (PDR)

The PDR is published annually by Medical Economics "in cooperation with participating manufacturers...Each product description has been prepared by the manufacturer, and edited and approved by the manufacturer's medical department, medical director, and/or medical consultant."

This reference includes a manufacturer's index, a brand and generic name index, a product category index, a product information guide (full color, actual-size photos of tablets and capsules), product information, and diagnostic product information.

Physicians' Desk Reference for Nonprescription Drugs and Dietary Supplements

Published by Medical Economics, "the information concerning each product has been prepared, edited, and approved by professional staff of the manufacturer."  The Dietary Supplement Information includes the "manufacturers' descriptions of a variety of natural remedies and nutritional supplements marketed under the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994."

Volume 1, Drug Information for the Health Care Professional includes information oriented toward those prescribing, dispensing, or administering drugs. Mosby's Nursing Drug Reference

Intended specifically for clinical use by the practicing nurse or student. Provides "access to drug information and nursing considerations that tell the nurse what to do in terms consistent with the nursing process". More than 1300 generic and 4500 trade name medications are included. Whenever possible, each entry includes pronunciations, functional and chemical classifications, controlled-substance schedule, action, uses, dosages and routes, available forms, side effects/adverse reactions, contraindications, precautions, pharmacokinetics, interactions/incompatibilities, lab test interferences, nursing considerations, and treatment of overdose.
