Statistics: Morbidity
Who Has What
The amount of information available on the prevalence (the total number of cases
existing in a population at a given time) and incidence (the number of new cases during a
specific time, usually a year, for a population) of various diseases and conditions varies
greatly. The Center for Disease Control keeps extensive statistics on the incidence of
infectious diseases recognized as public health problems. Cases of these diseases are
required to be reported. Most other morbidity data comes from surveys, hospital discharge
records, and epidemiological studies. This data is therefore less complete and more
difficult to find. Information on disability is in the section on social
aspects or in general sources. Information on the causes of
death is in the section on mortality.

publications on various diseases, cancer statistics, accidents and injuries, and
epidemiological journals)
