The day will consist of an exploration of how science discoveries are funded, distributed, stored, and accessed. The legal and technical issues involved with using and sharing scientific works will be addressed. Presenters and their topics: Heather Joseph is the Executive Director of SPARC and will discuss legislative issues surrounding federally funded science research and public access. Daviess Menefee is the Director of Library Relations for the Americas at Elsevier and will represent the for-profit publishing model. Alice Ra'anan is the Director of Government Relations and Public Policy for the American Physiological Society and will represent the non-profit society publishing model. Melissa Norton is a Medical Editor for BioMed Central and will represent BioMed Central's open access publishing model. John Wilbanks is the Executive Director of Science Commons and will discuss intellectual property and author rights for science research, data sets, and tools. Gavin Yamey is a Senior Editor for Public Library of Science and will present on the challenge of delivering health information to the globally poor and on the Public Library of Science publishing model.
